The Egrets Way Project is creating a network of multi-user trails linking Lewes to Newhaven and connecting the communities in the Lower Ouse Valley in the South Downs National Park.
Since the project began in 2011 we have secured planning permissiom for the entire network, obtained the consent of dozens of landlords for the use of their land, raised over £1.5M from many public and private sources and constructed over 8km of the planned network.
There is still a good deal to be done before the network is complete but we are hopeful that, with continuing support from local people as well as key partners, including the South Downs National Park, Sustrans and local councils, we will be able to finish the network in the next few years.
However, the work won't end there as we will need to ensure that the network is maintained to a high standard and this will require continuing support from local people who feel that this is an asset that brings benefits to the community it serves.
